Parent Teacher Conferences!!!! UGH
Parent-Teacher conference is tomorrow. Does anyone dread this time of year? I sure do. Not for fear of parents coming and yelling at me but for the time it wastes for me. You see I don't get many parents, last year I got a total of 5 and I taught 22 kids. I had to sit there for 8 hours waiting and waiting. I did get a lot of IEP's done however. How often do others have parent-teacher conferences? We only have them twice a year, 1st and 3rd quarters. And this year we don't have to be at school until noon!! So I guess I shouldn't complain. How come it is that the parents you want to see, never show up?

Glad to know that it is the same in other parts of the country. The only parents I had from my classes this year were those with A's!!! I did have a couple of parents email me and I have their students back on track. We actually had Friday off but stayed late on Wednesday and Thursday. BUT lucky me...I had marching band all day Friday! Do you get the speech...call home??? Usually I get a machine...which the student then erases or I get why are you bothering me? I actually enjoyed our conferences because I was able to catch up on some of my work...a little. Good luck and I will be thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteJust thought I would let you know that Parent/Teachers conference went great. I had 12 parents come in so I was pretty happy. However, I did get blammed for a student getting a D and a F in two classes, that I don't even teach. He told his dad the reason he got those grades was because I wouldn't let him bring homework home. His dad already knew the truth but thought he would address this with his child standing there. It was pretty funny. I have never heard that excuse before. That was are only Parent/teacher conference for the year. YAHOO!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your conferences went well :) I had an amazing 23 out of 27 show up. That's never happened before. We also have conferences 1st and 3rd quarter. My parent attendance will drop significantly for 3rd quarter. I LOVE it when parents confront their kids in front of the teacher, they really start squirming then don't they?
ReplyDeleteJanine,
ReplyDeleteYeah, they sure like to squirm when confronted. I am glad you had a good turn out for parent/teacher conferences. I just found out we are only having conferences once this year, so that is it for me. So that is kind of nice. Have a good one.
Glad to hear you survived the parent teacher conferences! I actually had some positive things come out of just the few that actually showed up for me. I now have a much more pleasant teaching experience with one of my students. I also had 2 major projects completed by the next day and actually turned in for credit! It is nice to have that parent support!
ReplyDeleteI always seem to have more A parents than anything else. For once I just wish I could talk to the parents I really need to see. But if they really cared about their child's education I guess I would not need to see them now would I?
ReplyDeleteOur school just had parent teacher conferences on the 11th. It was a crazy day! We had our End of the Quarter Celebration, a Veteran's Day Tea and the conferences! In May, about a week before school ends, we do a student led portfolio conference. This has been new in the past few years. We used to do our first on at the 1st quarter mid-term, but our new administrator changed it. It was a great opportunity for teachers to meet parents before grades could get out of hand. I liked the early one. The student led ones are starting to grow on me. This year my class gets to pilot an online student portfolio so I am excitd!
